For all those seeking out new book fairs with out all the advertising and commercialism, check out Usborne Books. They do great book fairs and fundraising Read-a-thons. No pencils, no posters, no books on disney, transformers, etc. Just pure educational books for all ages. They really are fantastic. It enables you to have a great selection of books, and any that are sold benefits the school/preschool, by getting some free books. My daughters school has had 2 Usborne Book Fairs and they were wonderful. The lady that sold the books was so helpful in helping us pick appriopriate books, and the books were of such high quality and just lovely to read. So check it out!!

for all of you idiots that are saying Oh Scholastic is bad because they are marketing their products. They are a company that strives to make it possible for children to get cheap books to increase reading levels, of course they market their product they are a business, just like anyone else that sells any kind of product, they are going to market this!! Come on people. Grow up!! You have your right to your opinion of course, but I know for a fact that your ridiculous opinions dont really matter, because there are alot more people that are so thankful to have scholastic part of their community than not!!

I'm not a Scholastic representative. I'm just a mom who likes book fairs.

I've printed out those wish lists kids fill out. My motivation was to promote our fundraiser. It's also an opportunity for teachers to show kids the books they like. Scholastic book fairs are simple and impressive fundraisers that put books in classrooms or generate income for our school. For a private school trying to maintain an up-to-date library, Scholastic can be a great resource.

That said, I wish they wouldn't send the junk. I wish they wouldn't include so many commercial characters and product tie-ins. At our fair, we don't put the junk on display and we pull books we don't want to profit from. I don't buy it from the order forms, either. I don't mind saying no and dealing with my kids' disappointment once a year at book fair time. I do mind having to deal with it every couple of weeks.
